Cross Country Banquet Information

The 2010 Cross Country Banquet will be held on Tuesday November 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school mini-theater. Light refreshments (dessert and drinks) will be provided, but we will not be having dinner as in previous years. We ask that all athletes arrive at 6:15 p.m. for pictures and boys where a shirt and tie and girls wear the female equivalent of a shirt and tie. See you Tuesday!

Eagle Boys 11th at State Meet; Galbreath Finishes 31st

The New Albany Boys capped off an impressive 2010 season by finishing a program best 11th at the Division 1 State Meet. Competing against the toughest teams in the state of Ohio, in a race where 27 runners broke 16:00, and 113 runners broke the 17:00 mark, the Eagles improved greatly on their 2009 15th place finish. Blake Taneff led the Eagles with a 14th overall finish (accounting for 9 points). This finish earned Blake All-Ohio honors where he joined 6 other Central Ohio runners. Sebastian Matt ran a personal best 16:10 to finish 44th. He was the 17th underclassmen to finish the race. Austin Bach also matched a personal best in 16:37. Tom Newton (16:44) and Alex Stanislav (17:08) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles. Also competing for the second year in a row was Drew Rose (17:12) and making his first state meet experience was Andrew Ziminski (18:00).

Louisville won the state title by one point over Medina. Dublin Coffman finished fourth behind St. Ignatius, while Reynoldsburg (9th) and Westerville North (15th) both both put individuals on the podium in addition to their team successes.

In addition, Mirra Galbreath represented the girls team with a 31st place finish. Coming into the stadium in position to earn All-Ohio honors, Mirra just missed finishing in the top 25 but finished as the 5th overall girl from the Central Ohio area. The girls program is very excited as all Varsity runners are expected to return for the 2011 season.

Eagle Boys Qualify to State; Mirra Galbreath Qualifies as an Individual

The New Albany Boys Cross Country Team qualified as a team to the 2010 Division 1 State Meet. Running at Pickerington North High School, the boys clinched fourth place to earn a second straight trip to Scioto Downs. The boys scored 125 points to finish behind first place Westerville North - 69 points, Reynoldsburg - 71 points, and Dublin Coffman 79 points. Leading the Eagles on Saturday were Blake Taneff and Sebastian Matt who finished 5th and 9th in the scoring. Austin Bach finished 16th in the scored race, while Drew Rose and Tom Newton rounded out the scoring with 44 and 45 points. This will be the second consecutive year that the boys represent New Albany against the best of the best in the state of Ohio. They will be looking to improve on last year's 15th place finish.

In addition, Mirra Galbreath qualified as an individual on Saturday as the girls team finished 6th place overall. Running a time of 19:22, Mirra finished 9th overall. Other top finishers this past Saturday were Catherine Ralston - 21st, Eliza Matt - 34th, Lexi Simpson - 49th, and Bry Zuiderweg - 52nd. Though disappointed with not qualifying to the state meet, the girls gained valuable experience and return all Varsity runners next season.

The boys will run at Scioto Downs at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and the Mirra will run the Division 1 Girls Race at 2:50.

District Champs!


The boys and girls cross country teams brought home two district champion trophies on Saturday afternoon winning their respective races at Watkins Memorial High School. It was an exciting day for the boys and girls of both programs.

The boys team won their 2nd District Championship in as many years beating state ranked Reynoldsburg 42-48. The first five boys all earned All Central District honors after finishing in the top 16 of the race. The 7 runners who competed on Saturday were:

OCC Champions - Back to Back




The New Albany Boys and Girls Cross Country teams enjoyed a successful weekend at the OCC Championships on Saturday. The boys team earned its second straight OCC Championship with 43 points edging out Watkins Memorial (55) and Hilliard Bradley (78). Blake Taneff earned his second individual OCC title in a time of 15:54. Sebastian Matt finished as runner up for the second year in a row in a time of 16:11. Also earning first team OCC honors was Alex Stanislav who finished 7th in a time of 16:44. Other team members running varsity were, Austin Bach (15th - 17:09), Tom Newton (18th - 17:15), Drew Rose (19th - 17:17), Andrew Ziminski (20th - 17:20), Willie Matt (21st - 17:21), Kyle Manion (38th - 17:58), and Nate Peck (48th - 18:30).

The girls team finished a close second overall at OCC finishing 2 points behind champion Mount Vernon despite running without #1 runner Mirra Galbreath. Top 5 finishers for the ladies were Catherine Ralston (8th - 19:52), Bryana Zuiderweg (9th - 19:57), Eliza Matt (10th - 20:06), Kenia Viezcas (14th - 20:28), and Lexi Simpson (18th - 20:39). Other girls who ran varsity on Saturday were Katie Washington (36th - 21:57), Shelby Lackey (43rd - 22:28), Hannah Taylor (46th - 22:43), Elissa Burack (56th - 23:36), and Andra Peck (62nd - 24:31).

Both teams will be competing at the District Meet at Watkins Memorial this Saturday. The boys will be running at 2:00 and the girls will be running at 3:00.

OCC and District Information

Championship Season is here. The Eagles start off with the OCC Championship Race on Saturday October 16th at Evans Athletic Complex in Newark. The Capital and Ohio Division will both have their separate championship races and combine for an open race. Time Schedule is as follows,

11:00 a.m. - HS Girls Open
11:40 a.m. - HS Boys Open
12:20 p.m. - Girls Varsity Championship Race
12:50 p.m. - Boys Varsity Championship Race

The OCC Capital Division is comprised of New Albany, Watkins Memorial, Hilliard Bradley, Delaware Hayes, Mount Vernon, Big Walnut, Franklin Heights, and Olentangy Orange. This will be the last race of the season for junior varsity runners.

In addition, the boys and girls coaches attended the District meeting on Sunday and determined District race times. The girls team was seeded 2nd overall in the Central District while the boys team earned the 4th overall seed. Dublin Coffman was the girls #1 seed with Dublin Coffman, Westerville North, and Reynoldsburg earning the top 3 seeds for the boys. District race information is as follows:

Girls Team Remains Undefeated; Boy's Third at Central Ohio Invitational













The girls cross country team won their fifth meet in a row to remain undefeated on the season Saturday at the Central Ohio Invitational in Groveport. The 10th ranked team in Division I was lead by Mirra Galbreath in a winning time of 18:51. With her win Mirra is now also undefeated as an individual for the season. Fellow scoring members on Saturday were Catherine Ralston (4th - 19:22), Elizabeth Dengler (7th - 19:49), Bryana Zuiderweg (8th - 19:57), and Lexi Simpson (10th - 20:08). Rounding out the varsity top 7 were Eliza Matt (11th - 20:08), and Kenia Viezcas (26th - 21:29). Final team results were:

McGowan Invitational - Watkins Memorial High School



On Saturday, both the boy’s and girl’s cross country teams made strong statements to the Central District as well as the state of Ohio. Both races featured many of the top ranked Division 1 teams in the state of Ohio.


The #17 state-ranked boy’s team finished 3rd overall behind #4 state-ranked Dublin Coffman and #9 state-ranked Reynoldsburg and were led up front by senior Blake Taneff. Scoring members of the varsity were Taneff (6th overall), Sebastian Matt (12th) with a personal record of 16:19, Austin Bach (23rd - PR 16:43), Tom Newton (43rd - PR 17:15), and Kyle Manion (77th - 17:54). The JV team ran extremely tough as well, finishing second overall behind winner Dublin Coffman, and were led by race winner (Senior) Alex Stanislav (17:33). The boys varsity will suit up against #9 state-ranked rival Westerville North this weekend at the Central Ohio Invitational hosted by Bishop Hartley.


The #24 state-ranked girl’s team was crowned as the overall champion in the Division 1 race, taking down perennial power and #7 ranked Dublin Coffman, and #15 Centerville. Sophomore, Mirra Galbreath lead the way up front, winning the race in a new school record time of 18:47. Other scoring members for the girl's team were Catherine Ralston, Elizabeth Dengler, Bryana Zuiderweg, and Eliza Matt. Mirra and the girl’s varsity team remain undefeated on the season and look forward to a battle this weekend with last year’s Regional Runner-Up and #10 state ranked Dublin Scioto.

The boy's and girl's varsity teams both brought home 1st place finishes this past weekend at the Olentangy Liberty Invitational. Competing against 12 central Ohio teams, the girls edged out 2nd place Upper Arlington by 6 points to win their third meet of the season to remain undefeated. Mirra Galbreath won her third race in as many races. The boy's team also beat second place Olentangy Liberty by 6 points to win their second meet of the season. Blake Taneff was the overall boy's winner and Alex Stanislav won the Boy's Open Race in a time of 18:04. Team Results were as follows:

The boy's and girl's team had another successful weekend at the Pickerington North XC Classic. The girl's team won their second meet in a row edging out Dublin Coffman by a score of 38-39. Mirra Galbreath won her second race in a row in a time of 19:23. Other individuals scoring for the girl's team were Elizabeth Dengler (5th), Catherine Ralston (8th), Lexi Simpson (10th), and Bryana Zuiderweg (14th).

Congratulations Karrington Winters

Cross Country Season 2010 - Important Dates

The 2010 Cross Country season is here, and there are many important dates leading up to the first meet. Please note the following:

Thursday August 5th - Granville 5k (optional) 7:15 p.m.
Monday August 9th - First day of practice (all practices starting on August 9th are mandatory)
Saturday August 14th - Team Pictures 10:45 a.m.
Saturday August 21st - NA Time Trial/Alumni Race 8 a.m. followed by Parent Meeting 9 a.m.
Sunday August 22nd - New Albany Athletic Meet the Team - 7 p.m. - Links Golf Club
Wednesday August 25th - New Albany Classic (first official race)
Thursday August 26th - 2:45 practices begin
Saturday August 28th - Pickerington North Invitational
Monday August 30th - First Day of School
