Eagle Boys Qualify to State; Mirra Galbreath Qualifies as an Individual

The New Albany Boys Cross Country Team qualified as a team to the 2010 Division 1 State Meet. Running at Pickerington North High School, the boys clinched fourth place to earn a second straight trip to Scioto Downs. The boys scored 125 points to finish behind first place Westerville North - 69 points, Reynoldsburg - 71 points, and Dublin Coffman 79 points. Leading the Eagles on Saturday were Blake Taneff and Sebastian Matt who finished 5th and 9th in the scoring. Austin Bach finished 16th in the scored race, while Drew Rose and Tom Newton rounded out the scoring with 44 and 45 points. This will be the second consecutive year that the boys represent New Albany against the best of the best in the state of Ohio. They will be looking to improve on last year's 15th place finish.

In addition, Mirra Galbreath qualified as an individual on Saturday as the girls team finished 6th place overall. Running a time of 19:22, Mirra finished 9th overall. Other top finishers this past Saturday were Catherine Ralston - 21st, Eliza Matt - 34th, Lexi Simpson - 49th, and Bry Zuiderweg - 52nd. Though disappointed with not qualifying to the state meet, the girls gained valuable experience and return all Varsity runners next season.

The boys will run at Scioto Downs at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and the Mirra will run the Division 1 Girls Race at 2:50.
