McGowan Invitational - Watkins Memorial High School



On Saturday, both the boy’s and girl’s cross country teams made strong statements to the Central District as well as the state of Ohio. Both races featured many of the top ranked Division 1 teams in the state of Ohio.


The #17 state-ranked boy’s team finished 3rd overall behind #4 state-ranked Dublin Coffman and #9 state-ranked Reynoldsburg and were led up front by senior Blake Taneff. Scoring members of the varsity were Taneff (6th overall), Sebastian Matt (12th) with a personal record of 16:19, Austin Bach (23rd - PR 16:43), Tom Newton (43rd - PR 17:15), and Kyle Manion (77th - 17:54). The JV team ran extremely tough as well, finishing second overall behind winner Dublin Coffman, and were led by race winner (Senior) Alex Stanislav (17:33). The boys varsity will suit up against #9 state-ranked rival Westerville North this weekend at the Central Ohio Invitational hosted by Bishop Hartley.


The #24 state-ranked girl’s team was crowned as the overall champion in the Division 1 race, taking down perennial power and #7 ranked Dublin Coffman, and #15 Centerville. Sophomore, Mirra Galbreath lead the way up front, winning the race in a new school record time of 18:47. Other scoring members for the girl's team were Catherine Ralston, Elizabeth Dengler, Bryana Zuiderweg, and Eliza Matt. Mirra and the girl’s varsity team remain undefeated on the season and look forward to a battle this weekend with last year’s Regional Runner-Up and #10 state ranked Dublin Scioto.
