The boys cross country team had an exciting and very rewarding day Saturday winning the 2009 OCC Capital Division Championship at Watkins Memorial High School. The team scored a total of 38 points to beat second place Hilliard Bradley (66 pts.), Mount Vernon (82 pts.) Watkins Memorial (97 pts.), Big Walnut (105 pts.), Orange (148 pts.), and Delaware Hayes (158 pts.).
In addition to winning the team title, New Albany had the top two finishers in the championship race. Blake Taneff (11th grade) was the individual conference champion winning by 30 seconds in 16:21. Sebastian Matt (10th grade) took second place overall in 16:51. The next 3 individuals scoring for the team were Austin Bach (9th grade) in 8th place (17:13), Alex Stanislav (11th grade) in 11th place (17:20), and Drew Rose (9th grade) in 16th place (17:35). Other individuals running varsity for the Eagles on Saturday were Tom Newton (11th grade - 17th place - 17:45), Willie Matt (11th grade - 21st place - 17:59), Kyle Manion (11th grade), Kraig Manion (10th grade), and Andrew Ziminski(11th grade).
If you see any of these young young men please congratulate them on this great accomplishment. They have put in hours of work to prepare themselves for these championship races and have had the goal of winning the conference cross country meet since the spring. It was very rewarding for them to accomplish this goal on Saturday. Also, if you think of it, please wish these young men good luck as they prepare for the district meet this Saturday at 4:00 again at Watkins Memorial High School. We can use all of your support.
