2009 District Champions

The boys cross country team had another exciting day Saturday winning the 2009 Division I District Championship at a muddy Watkins Memorial High School. The 13th seeded boys won a very tight meet with a total of 67 points to beat 3rd seeded Reynoldsburg (69 points), 8th seeded Olentangy Liberty (76 points), 5th seeded Hilliard Davidson (114 points), 14th seeded Hilliard Bradley (118 points), and 12th seeded Thomas Worthington (141 points). These 6 teams all qualify to the regional meet.
In addition to winning the team title, Blake Taneff (11th grade) won the individual district title in 16:40 beating the second place finisher from Hilliard Davidson by 13 seconds. Other individuals scoring were Sebastian Matt (10th grade) - 1st team all-district, 6th place overall, Austin Bach (9th grade) - 2nd team all district, 13 place overall, Tom Newton (11th grade) - 23rd place overall, Drew Rose (9th grade) - 24th overall, Willie Matt (11th grade) - 34th overall, and Alex Stanislav (11th grade) - 58th overall.
This was another major accomplishment by these young men and further evidence of their commitment to the sport and one another. As coaches, we couldn't be prouder of these young men and how well they represent New Albany High School on and off the cross country course. If you get a chance, please wish them good luck as they prepare for the regional meet on Saturday. A top 4 finish on Saturday would earn the team one of sixteen spots at the state meet on Saturday, November 7th.
If you are interested in attending the meet on Saturday, the girls run at 12:35 and the boys at 2:50. Both races will take place at Pickerington North High School. All support is greatly appreciated.
