NACC Boy's Wrap Up Season at State

The boy's cross country team ended a great season Saturday with a 15th place finish at the Division I State Cross Country Meet held at Scioto Downs Race Track. Competing against the biggest and best schools in Ohio, the young boys team had a valuable experience that can be used as a foundation for future seasons.

Top finishers for the Eagles were Jr. Blake Taneff (65th overall - 37 points) in 16:58, So. Sebastian Matt (93rd overall - 55 points) in 17:18, Jr. Alex Stanislav (121st overall - 83 points), Fr. Austin Bach (122nd overall - 84 points), Jr. Tom Newton (127th overall - 89 points) in 17:54, Fr. Drew Rose (138th overall) in 18:14, and Jr. Willie Matt (145th overall) in 18:29. With all 12 of the top varsity runners returning next season, the boys are excited to continue their success next season.

Please congratulate all team members on a great season. In addition to qualifying for the state meet for the first time in 30 years, they were OCC and District Champions in what can be argued as the most successful season in New Albany history. We are proud of these young men and all that they bring on and off the cross country course.

State Meet Race - Saturday at 2:50.

1. The boy's Division I race is the last race of the day Saturday. It starts at 2:50. The bus will be leaving at 11:15 from the high school. Any high school or middle school runner that would like to ride the bus should be at the high school by 11:10.

2. The meet is held at Scioto Downs race track off of Route 23 and price of admission is $9. Teammates need to bring $9 if they would like to enter the grandstand area of the course. Spectators can see other portions of the course, but in order to see the start, finish, and the awards podium, one must be inside the grandstand. All proceeds go to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

3. For parents, family, friends, and fans, if you are driving to the meet, PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME! Traffic builds up in this area throughout the day (I have sat in traffic up to an hour the day of the state meet) and it can be backed up as far as 270. Hopefully by the end of the day, traffic has thinned out a bit, but I would hate to see someone miss watching the race due to traffic.

4. Natalie Matt and Krissy Bach have ordered t-shirts for the boys. Their will be t-shirts for all members of this year's team, not just those who are running on Saturday. If you are interested in contributing any amount of money towards these t-shirts please contact Natalie or Krissy. Their emails are nmatt@insight.rr.com and kristen.bach@swcs.us .

5. With between 12,000 and 15,000 people at the meet on Saturday we thought it would be wise to come up with a couple of "meeting" spots. Inside the grandstand, Natalie and Krissy are going to hang a New Albany banner where parents and New Albany supporters are going to sit/stand. Please look for this banner when entering the grandstand. If I get a specific location of where this is going to be, I will send out another email. The team will also be setting up a camp with the tent outside the grandstand area. The location of this will be determined on Friday, and I will email you all Friday of where the tent will be set up.

6. As a note, the last state poll was released yesterday and the team was ranked #15 in the state of Ohio. This is the first trip to the state meet in what is believed to be 30 years and we are the youngest team at the state meet with no seniors, 3 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 2 freshman. It will be a great experience for our boys as they continue their early running careers. We appreciate all the support.

Go Eagles!

The Season Continues! Next Stop... State!

The boys cross country team continued their string of post-season success by finishing 3rd out of 16 at the Regional Meet at Pickerington North High School Saturday afternoon. The third place finish qualifies the team for the OHSAA Division I State Cross Country Championships to be held this Saturday November 7th, at 2:50 p.m. at Scioto Downs.

Competing on another rain soaked course, the Eagles (Ranked #13 in the region) finished 3rd behind Regional Champion Pickerington North (Ranked #1 in the region and #8 in the state) and Regional Runner-Up Reynoldsburg (Ranked #3 in the region). The Eagles finished directly ahead of 4th place Dublin Coffman (Ranked #2 in the region and #15 in the state). Final team rankings are at the bottom of this email.

Team members competing for the boy's squad were, Blake Taneff (11th grade) - 5th overall (4 points), Sebastian Matt (10th grade) - 25th overall (21 points), Austin Bach (9th grade) - 30th overall (26 points), Drew Rose (9th grade) - 41st overall (33 points), Tom Newton (11th grade) - 65th overall (55 points), Alex Stanislav (11th grade) - 97th overall, and Willie Matt (11th grade) - 98th overall.

These young men continue to impress their supporters and competitors with their poise, aggressiveness, and overall team execution. They truly believe in one another and treat this sport with a team first mentality and as a result have accomplished great team success.

Thank you to all of the family, friends, and fans who showed up Saturday in support of these young men. With nearly 150 New Albany supporters, it was a memory for all involved when the team results were announced. If you see any of these young men, please congratulate them on this accomplishment and wish them the best of luck Saturday as they race in front of nearly 15,000 fans at the state meet. It will surely be an experience that they will never forget.
